About

Tannen Corporate Communications is a boutique communications firm that focuses on reputation management.

What differentiates us is our perspective. That perspective grew out of founder Andy Tannen’s work with major companies and industries over the past 40 years.  Those companies include an IBM that was in transition as it changed its business model, to pharma giant Roche working to gain recognition as an innovative producer of drugs through alliances, to Philips Electronics repositioning itself as a healthcare technology company to Pratt & Whitney generating confidence in the aerospace industry and investment community about the world’s most sustainable jet engine.  Each was a completely different assignment, but each required detailed research to develop the right strategy to achieve business objectives.

We provide the specific services that are needed to build, strengthen and defend corporate reputations, including business/financial and trade print, broadcast and online media relations.  A specialty service is executive thought leadership, such as creating customized events for targeted audiences, executive speeches before the most influential business forums, writing and placing articles in management journals, business and trade publications and local papers and business weeklies. We provide crisis communications support because no company is going to be able to avoid crises in the digital era, whether a truly major crisis or a disgruntled customer who is not heard by a company.  Recommended services will always depend on the audiences a client needs to engage.

Our approach is research-based: With a new client, we always conduct in-depth research, ranging from executive interviews to media analyses, to influencer viewpoint assessments (these are not YouTube influencers but may include financial analysts and industry market researchers, plus government, think tank and academic reports). We then develop a Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats (SWOT) analysis that leads to building a communications plan.

Andy Tannen, the firm’s founder, has served as the head of the Corporate Communications Practice and the Technology Practice at Publicis Groupe’s MSL (formerly Manning Selvage & Lee) and has also worked for other leading public relations firms, such as Hill and Knowlton and Ruder Finn.  In those jobs, he worked with companies in a range of industries including information technology, financial services, aerospace and manufacturing, healthcare and professional services.

Tannen is a recognized leader in analyzing corporate reputational issues and has written articles on the subject for Forbes.com, IndustryWeek, Chief Executive Magazine and PR Week.

He has been involved in organizations that provide thought leadership in corporate communications, such as the Arthur Page Society.  He has participated in panel discussions on corporate reputation at Temple University and the University of Rhode Island. He also serves on the communications committee for Tanenbaum, the leading non-profit that develops programs to encourage inter-religious understanding.

He received a BFA degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
